What is BSW?
BSW is a professional degree in social work. You learn how society, poverty, gender, caste and health shape people's lives, and how social workers support people through counselling, community organising and welfare schemes.
Fieldwork is the heart of the course: most BSW programmes require regular supervised placements (often two days a week) plus rural camps and a block internship. You learn case work, group work, community organisation, report writing and basic project management.
Unlike a general BA Sociology, which studies society academically, BSW trains you to intervene and work directly with people. It is the natural foundation for an MSW, which most senior social-work jobs require.
