Top Engineering Colleges in Hyderabad 2026: NIRF Ranks, Fees

Looking for the top engineering colleges in Hyderabad for 2026? The city and its outskirts host three nationally ranked names, IIT Hyderabad, IIIT Hyderabad and BITS Pilani's Hyderabad campus, along with the University of Hyderabad, JNTUH, Osmania University's engineering college and a strong group of autonomous private colleges such as CBIT, Vasavi, VNR VJIET and GRIET. This guide lists them with NIRF 2025 ranks, admission routes, approximate fees and tips for choosing.

All ranks below come from the NIRF 2025 Engineering ranking released by the Ministry of Education on 4 September 2025. As of late October 2026, the NIRF 2026 results had not been officially published, so the 2025 edition is the latest verified list. Fees quoted for private colleges follow the Telangana government's 2025–28 fee block.

Quick answer: As per NIRF 2025 (Engineering), the top engineering colleges in Hyderabad are IIT Hyderabad (rank 7), IIIT Hyderabad (rank 38), University of Hyderabad (rank 74) and JNTU Hyderabad (rank 94). BITS Pilani, whose Hyderabad campus is one of its three, ranks 11 as a single institution. Among state-quota colleges, Osmania University College of Engineering, Anurag, CBIT, VNR VJIET, GRIET and CVR are in the 101–200 bands. Admission is via JEE Advanced/JoSAA, JEE Main, BITSAT or TG EAPCET counselling.

Top TG EAPCET private colleges in Hyderabad

These autonomous colleges fill most seats through TG EAPCET counselling. Their tuition is fixed by the state on the advice of the Telangana Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (TAFRC). The 2025–28 block was notified through G.O. Ms. No. 06 (March 2026); the minimum fee is Rs 45,000 a year.

VNR VJIET and GRIET in Bachupally are known for strong placement cells and active student clubs. MGIT, CVR and Sreenidhi are steady choices with good recruiter connections in the Hyderabad IT sector.

Check before you pay: TAFRC figures are tuition only. Admission, special, exam, bus and hostel fees are extra. Some colleges also have court orders affecting their 2026–27 fees, so confirm the current amount with the college and the official counselling website.

How admission to engineering colleges in Hyderabad works

Hyderabad colleges use different entrance exams, so many students write two or three. Here is the usual path:

  1. JEE Main (January and April): needed for IIIT Hyderabad's JEE channel, NIT Warangal and other NITs/IIITs through JoSAA, and accepted by Mahindra, Woxsen and some other private universities.
  2. JEE Advanced (May/June): the top JEE Main scorers qualify; your rank decides IIT Hyderabad seats through JoSAA counselling.
  3. BITSAT (computer-based, two sessions): the only route to BITS Pilani's Hyderabad campus apart from the board-topper quota.
  4. IIIT Hyderabad's own channels: UGEE (written test and interview) for dual-degree courses, plus SPEC, Olympiad and lateral-entry routes. Apply on the IIIT-H admissions portal.
  5. TG EAPCET (May): the Telangana Engineering, Agriculture and Pharmacy Common Entrance Test, formerly called TS EAMCET. It is conducted by JNTUH for the Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE). In 2026 the engineering stream was held on 9–11 May.
  6. TGCHE web counselling (June–August): certificate verification, web options and several allotment phases for convenor-quota seats in JNTUH, OU and private colleges. Local-area rules reserve most seats for Telangana students.
  7. Management quota (Category B): private colleges fill up to 30% of seats themselves, giving preference to JEE Main and then EAPCET ranks and Class 12 marks.

Note: Exam names and portals were renamed from "TS" to "TG" in 2024. The official EAPCET site is eapcet.tgche.ac.in; avoid unofficial look-alike sites.

How to choose the right college

A high NIRF rank is a good starting point, but it is not the only thing that matters for a B.Tech seat in Hyderabad.

  • Branch vs college: CSE in a mid-ranked autonomous college may suit you better than a core branch you dislike in a higher-ranked one. Decide your priority early.
  • Placements: ask for the median package, not just the highest, and how many students were placed.
  • Accreditation: check NBA accreditation for your branch and the college's NAAC status on official sites.
  • Distance: IIT Hyderabad, Woxsen and IFHE are well outside the city; Gandipet, Bachupally and Ghatkesar colleges need long bus rides from many areas. Count travel time and bus fees.
  • Total cost: add tuition, hostel, transport and exam fees over four years.

Tip: Use the previous year's TG EAPCET closing ranks for your category and branch to build a realistic web-options list. Put dream, target and safe colleges in order so you do not lose a seat in the first phase.

Scholarships and fee support

Engineering in Hyderabad can be affordable if you use the support available. Telangana's Reimbursement of Tuition Fee (RTF) scheme, applied through the ePASS portal, covers tuition for eligible SC, ST, BC, EWS, minority and disabled students within the state's income limits. IITs and IIIT Hyderabad offer tuition waivers and merit-cum-means scholarships, and central schemes on the National Scholarship Portal are open to students across India.

You can also try the AISEE scholarship for engineering students, a national exam whose result can reduce your fees at participating colleges. Browse the wider list of scholarships after 12th in India as well, since many private and corporate awards open each year.
