How admission works in Jaipur colleges

Jaipur's institutes use national exams, Rajasthan state counselling and their own processes. Plan your exams by stream early.

  1. Engineering: Take JEE Main. MNIT seats go through JoSAA. LNMIIT and MUJ use JEE Main scores (MUJ also runs MET). State and private engineering colleges fill seats through REAP.
  2. Architecture: MNIT uses JEE Main Paper 2. Private colleges usually accept NATA.
  3. Medical, dental and Ayurveda: NEET UG is compulsory. The 15% All India Quota seats at SMS go through MCC. State quota seats go through Rajasthan's NEET UG counselling. BAMS seats at NIA go through AACCC.
  4. General UG (BA, BSc, BCom): The University of Rajasthan and its colleges mainly admit on Class 12 merit. St. Xavier's, IIS and private universities run their own processes.
  5. Management: CAT for MNIT. CAT, XAT, MAT or CMAT for Jaipuria and IIHMR, followed by group discussion or interview.
  6. Law: Check each university's notice. Private universities often accept CLAT or LSAT India scores, and public universities follow their own entrance or merit rules.

Note: Track dates for every exam you plan to take. Our important dates page lists scholarship exam deadlines alongside the usual admission season.

How to choose the right college in Jaipur

  • Check the right NIRF list. MNIT's rank 42 is an Engineering rank and SMS's rank 39 is a Medical rank. Compare institutes only within the same category and edition.
  • Confirm approvals. Check UGC recognition for universities, AICTE approval for engineering and PGDM, NMC for MBBS, and NCISM for BAMS.
  • Look at total cost. Private university fees can be several times higher than government fees. Add hostel and transport, since MUJ, Amity and LNMIIT are on the outskirts.
  • Ask for real placement data. Use the median salary in the institute's NIRF data file, not only the highest package in advertisements.

Tip: Each NIRF-ranked institute publishes a data file with student strength, median salary and PhD numbers on nirfindia.org. Five minutes with that file tells you more than a brochure.

Scholarships and funding for Jaipur students

Students in Rajasthan can combine several types of support:

  • National Scholarship Portal (NSP): Central schemes such as the Central Sector Scheme for college students, plus post-matric scholarships for SC, ST, OBC and minority students.
  • Rajasthan state schemes: State post-matric scholarships and schemes such as the Mukhyamantri Uchch Shiksha Chhatravriti, applied for through the state's SSO portal. Check the current eligibility notice each year.
  • Institute scholarships: NITs give fee waivers based on family income. Private universities such as MUJ, LNMIIT, JECRC and Poornima offer merit scholarships tied to JEE Main or Class 12 scores.
  • AISEE: The AISEE scholarship for engineering students and other streams helps Class 12 and college students reduce their fee burden through a national merit test.

To prepare, you can practise with the free test series before the exam.
