Top Hotel Management Colleges in India 2026: IHMs, Fees & Admission

Looking for the top hotel management colleges in India for 2026? The strongest options are the government-run Institutes of Hotel Management (IHMs) affiliated to NCHMCT, led by IHM Pusa (New Delhi), IHM Mumbai, IHM Hyderabad, IHM Bengaluru and IHM Chennai, along with a handful of well-known private and industry-backed schools such as WGSHA Manipal, the Oberoi Centre of Learning and Development and IHM Aurangabad.

This guide lists 15 well-regarded hospitality schools, explains the courses on offer (B.Sc HHA, BHM and diplomas), walks you through NCHM JEE and other entrance routes, gives approximate fees, and answers the questions students and parents ask most often.

Quick answer: IHM Pusa in New Delhi is widely regarded as India's leading hotel management college, followed by WGSHA Manipal, IHM Mumbai, IHM Hyderabad and IHM Bengaluru. Most government IHMs admit students to the 3-year B.Sc in Hospitality and Hotel Administration through NCHM JEE, which the National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts. Tuition at central IHMs is roughly ₹3.4 lakh for the full programme (2026-27), while private schools can cost ₹8–21 lakh.

Is there an NIRF ranking for hotel management?

No. The government's National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranks universities, colleges and subjects such as engineering, management, pharmacy, medical, law and architecture, but it has no separate hotel management or hospitality category. The latest edition, NIRF 2025, was released on 4 September 2025 and does not rank IHMs as hospitality schools.

So this list relies on other credible signals instead:

  • Government status: central IHMs run under the Ministry of Tourism and affiliated to the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT).
  • NCHM JEE intake and demand: seat numbers and how competitive each institute is in counselling.
  • Published surveys: India Today's annual Best Colleges survey has placed IHM Pusa at No. 1 and WGSHA Manipal at No. 2 for hotel management in recent editions, as reproduced by Shiksha and Collegedunia.
  • Industry links and reputation: long track records, hotel-group partnerships and recruiter presence.

Note: Magazine rankings use their own surveys and change every year. Treat the order below as a guide, not an official rank. Always compare placements, fees and location for yourself.

How admission works: NCHM JEE and other entrance exams

NCHM JEE (also called NCHMCT JEE) is the main gateway to government IHMs. Since 2019 it has been conducted by the National Testing Agency. The 2026 exam was held on 25 April 2026, results came out in late May, and counselling ran on the NCHMCT portal from early June. For 2026, about 80 institutes and roughly 8,600 B.Sc HHA seats took part in counselling (Careers360, citing the official seat matrix).

  1. Check eligibility: pass (or appear in) Class 12 in any stream with English as a subject. Age rules have changed in recent years, so read the current NTA information bulletin.
  2. Register on the NTA site: forms usually open between December and March at the NTA NCHM JEE website.
  3. Prepare for the test: it is a computer-based paper covering English, aptitude for the service sector, reasoning, numerical ability and general knowledge, with negative marking.
  4. Take the exam (April) and check the result (May–June).
  5. Join NCHMCT counselling: register and fill choices at nchmcounselling.nic.in; seats are allotted by rank, category and preference over several rounds.
  6. Report to the institute with documents and pay the first-semester fee.

Other routes include IPU CET for GGSIPU colleges in Delhi, state hotel management exams such as West Bengal's JEHOM, and institute-level tests and interviews at MAHE, Christ, Amity and IHM Aurangabad. Some universities also accept CUET UG scores, so check each college's notice.

Fees: what to expect in 2026

The biggest difference between colleges is cost. NCHMCT's fee table for the B.Sc HHA batch starting in 2026-27 lists about ₹72,915 for the first semester (including one-time charges such as JNU registration and a refundable caution deposit) and ₹53,000 for each later semester. That works out to roughly ₹3.4 lakh in tuition for the three years, before hostel and mess charges. Institutes have some discretion, so exact amounts can vary.

College typeApprox. total fees (course)
Central IHMs (B.Sc HHA)₹3.3–3.5 lakh tuition + hostel
State IHMsSimilar to or lower than central IHMs
Private universities (BHM)₹5–10 lakh
Premium private (WGSHA, IHM Aurangabad)₹16–21 lakh

Verify before paying: fees, seat counts and hostel charges change every year. Always confirm the current figures on the institute's official website or the NCHMCT notice.

Career scope after hotel management

Hospitality graduates work far beyond hotel front desks. Common paths include hotel operations (front office, housekeeping, food and beverage), kitchens and culinary roles, airline and railway catering, cruise lines, quick-service restaurant chains, event management, facility management, retail and customer service, and hospital or corporate hospitality.

Starting salaries are usually modest, but growth depends on skills, languages and the brand you join. Many graduates reach management roles within a few years, and some start their own cafés, bakeries or cloud kitchens.

How to choose the right hotel management college

  • Government vs private: central IHMs offer the best value; private schools can offer smaller batches and brand partnerships at a much higher cost.
  • Industrial training: ask where students do their mandatory hotel training and which brands visit for placements.
  • Location: big hotel cities (Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Goa) give more internship and part-time options.
  • Total cost: add hostel, uniforms, kits and living costs to tuition before you decide.

Tip: In NCHMCT counselling, list more institutes than you think you need. A lower-ranked central IHM still awards the same JNU degree as the top ones.

Scholarships and funding for hotel management students

Hotel management can be affordable if you plan your funding early. Students in IHMs can apply for central and state schemes through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP), including post-matric scholarships for SC, ST, OBC and minority students. Many states also run their own fee-reimbursement schemes.

Merit-based options can bring costs down further. The AISEE scholarship for college students helps eligible students reduce tuition at participating institutions, and you can browse more options in our guide to scholarships after 12th in India. Education loans from public-sector banks are another common route for private BHM programmes.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the No. 1 hotel management college in India?

IHM Pusa in New Delhi is generally considered the best. It has been placed first for hotel management in recent India Today surveys and is a top choice in NCHM JEE counselling. WGSHA Manipal is usually rated the best private option.

Does NIRF rank hotel management colleges?

No. NIRF has no hotel management or hospitality category, so IHMs are not ranked as hospitality schools. Students rely on government status, NCHM JEE demand, magazine surveys and placement records instead.

Who conducts NCHM JEE and when is it held?

The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts NCHM JEE on behalf of NCHMCT. The exam is usually held in April, and the 2026 exam took place on 25 April 2026. Check the NTA website for the 2027 schedule.

What is the fee for B.Sc HHA at a government IHM?

For the 2026-27 batch, NCHMCT lists about ₹72,915 for the first semester and ₹53,000 for each later semester, or roughly ₹3.4 lakh in tuition for three years. Hostel and mess charges are extra.

Can I join hotel management after Class 12 Commerce or Arts?

Yes. B.Sc HHA and BHM programmes accept students from any stream, as long as you have studied English in Class 12. Some private colleges set a minimum percentage, so check their criteria.

Is B.Sc HHA better than BHM?

Neither is automatically better. B.Sc HHA from an NCHMCT-affiliated IHM is cheaper and carries a JNU degree, while a 4-year BHM at a good university may offer longer training. Choose based on the institute's placements and your budget.

Is hotel management a good career in 2026?

It can be, especially with India's growing tourism, aviation and food-service sectors. Pay starts modestly but grows with experience, and the skills open doors in hotels, airlines, cruises, retail and entrepreneurship.

Conclusion: picking from the top hotel management colleges in India

For most students, the smartest route to the top hotel management colleges in India is a strong NCHM JEE score, which opens doors to IHM Pusa, IHM Mumbai and other central IHMs at a modest fee. If you prefer a private campus or a specific hotel-group link, WGSHA Manipal, IHM Aurangabad and OCLD are worth a close look. Shortlist five or six options, confirm current fees and dates on official sites, and line up scholarships early. Keep track of key deadlines on our scholarship exam dates page.
