How admission works for B.Tech in Delhi NCR

Delhi NCR covers three states and the national capital, so the counselling you join depends on the college. Almost every route uses JEE Main in some way.
- JoSAA (IIT Delhi, NIT Delhi): IIT Delhi needs a JEE Advanced rank; NIT Delhi uses JEE Main. Both fill seats through JoSAA counselling, followed by CSAB special rounds for NITs.
- JAC Delhi (DTU, NSUT, IIIT Delhi, IGDTUW, DSEU): a single counselling on jacdelhi.admissions.nic.in based on JEE Main. 85% of seats go to the Delhi region (students who passed Class 12 from a school in Delhi) and 15% to candidates from outside Delhi. Most institutes ask for 60% aggregate in PCM; IIIT Delhi has its own criteria.
- IPU counselling (GGSIPU and affiliated colleges): B.Tech admission is on JEE Main rank, with IPU CET used only for a few programmes. Check ipu.ac.in for the current brochure.
- UPTAC (Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad colleges): AKTU-affiliated colleges such as NIET, G.L. Bajaj, KIET, ABES and JSSATE fill most seats on JEE Main rank through UPTAC.
- HSTES (Faridabad, Sonipat state institutes): J.C. Bose YMCA and DCRUST Murthal admit through Haryana's online counselling at techadmissionshry.gov.in, with about 85% of seats for Haryana candidates.
- Private university processes: Amity, Sharda, Galgotias, JIIT, Bennett, Shiv Nadar, NorthCap and Manav Rachna run their own applications. They may use their own test, JEE Main, Class 12 marks or a mix.
Tip: Register for every counselling you are eligible for. A Delhi student can sit in JoSAA, JAC Delhi and IPU in the same season and keep the best seat. Track deadlines on our important dates page and the official portals.
Approximate B.Tech fees in Delhi NCR (2025-26)
| Fee range (full 4-year B.Tech, approx.) | Examples |
|---|---|
| Under ₹5 lakh | Jamia Millia Islamia, J.C. Bose University YMCA, Galgotias (lower branches) |
| ₹5–10 lakh | IIT Delhi, NIT Delhi, DTU, GGSIPU colleges, KIET, NIET, MRIIRS |
| ₹10–15 lakh | NSUT, JIIT Noida, Sharda, BML Munjal |
| ₹15 lakh and above | IIIT Delhi, Amity (higher branches), NorthCap, Shiv Nadar |
Check before you pay: Fees change every year and differ by branch, category and hostel choice. The figures above are rounded from 2025-26 listings. Always confirm the latest fee structure on the official website or counselling brochure.
How to choose the right engineering college in Delhi NCR
- Branch vs brand: A preferred branch at a strong state university (DTU, NSUT, IIIT Delhi) can serve you better than a branch you dislike at a bigger name.
- Use the right quota: If you studied Class 12 in Delhi, the 85% Delhi-region quota in JAC Delhi gives you a real advantage. Haryana and UP residents get similar benefits in HSTES and UPTAC.
- Look at placement data, not claims: Read the median salary in each institute's NIRF data file instead of the highest package in adverts.
- Total cost: Add hostel, mess and transport. A day-scholar seat close to home can save several lakh rupees over four years.
- Approvals: Check AICTE approval (for colleges), UGC recognition (for universities) and the NIRF status yourself.
Scholarships and funding for engineering students
Government institutes like IIT Delhi and NIT Delhi offer tuition waivers based on family income. State universities in Delhi run their own merit-cum-means schemes, and private universities give fee concessions for good JEE Main or Class 12 scores.
Students can also apply on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) for central schemes such as post-matric and AICTE scholarships, and on state portals in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. For a merit-based option that works across many private colleges, look at the AISEE scholarship for engineering students, and practise with the free test series.
