How admission works in Gurgaon

Each stream has its own entry route. Most private universities also run their own application forms, so watch several deadlines at once.

  1. B.Tech: Take JEE Main. Private universities such as Amity, NCU and BMU accept JEE Main scores or run their own tests. Some admit on Class 12 PCM marks.
  2. MBBS/BDS: Qualify NEET-UG, then register for Haryana state counselling for SGT University seats. Follow the official counselling notice for quotas and fees.
  3. MBA/PGDM: Take CAT for MDI. Great Lakes and BMU also accept XAT, GMAT and some other tests. Shortlisted students face written tests and interviews.
  4. Law: CLAT scores are accepted by several universities, but most Gurgaon law schools also run their own admission process.
  5. BA/B.Sc/B.Com in government colleges: Apply on the Haryana Higher Education Department's online admission portal after Class 12 results. Merit lists are released college-wise.
  6. Architecture: NATA or JEE Main Paper 2 for B.Arch at Sushant University and other schools.

How to choose the right college in Gurgaon

  • Read the NIRF category, not just the number. A university can rank well in law or pharmacy but not in engineering. Match the rank to your course.
  • Check the commute. Gurgaon is spread out. Campuses at Manesar, Sohna Road, Budhera and Sidhrawali can be 20–40 km from central Gurgaon, so ask about hostels and buses.
  • Compare total cost. Add tuition, hostel, transport and exam fees over all years before you decide.
  • Ask for placement reports. Look for median salary and the share of students placed, not just the highest package.
  • Confirm approvals. Check UGC recognition for universities, AICTE for engineering and PGDM, NMC for MBBS, NDC for BDS, PCI for pharmacy and BCI for law.

Tip: Visit two or three campuses before paying any seat-booking amount. Talk to current students about faculty, internships and hostel life, and get the refund policy in writing.

Scholarships and financial help

Private colleges in Gurgaon can be expensive, so plan funding early. Most private universities here offer merit scholarships based on Class 12 marks or entrance ranks. Ask each admission office for its current scholarship policy.

You can also take the AISEE scholarship exam, a national scholarship test that helps Class 12 and college students reduce the cost of higher education. Government options include central and state scholarships listed on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) and Haryana's own post-matric schemes for eligible students. If you want to compare more options, see our guide to scholarships after 12th in India.
